Fashion Retailer will pay $3.5M to Resolve Systemic Claims of Pregnancy Discrimination

December 17, 2018

The Cato Corporation will pay $3.5 million to resolve a nationwide systemic investigation, conducted jointly out of the Chicago and Philadelphia offices of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), that revealed purported violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, and Title VII. The EEOC found that the leading retailer of women’s fashion and accessories denied reasonable accommodations to certain pregnant employees or those with disabilities, made certain employees take unpaid leaves of absence, and/or terminated them.
