Single-User Bathrooms in California to be Gender-Neutral Starting March 1, 2017

California Governor Edmond G. Brown has approved legislation that requires single-user bathrooms in businesses to be gender-neutral. Beginning March 1, 2017, all single-user toilet facilities in those places must be "identified as all-gender toilet facilities." A "single-user toilet facility" is "a toilet facility with no more than one water closet and one urinal with a locking mechanism controlled by the user." Inspectors, building officials, and other officials responsible for code enforcement are authorized to inspect for compliance with these provisions during any inspection.
